Swap Til' You Drop Party

Saturday, May 21 7 pm – 11 pm
Sheraton Convention Center Hotel
2nd Floor – Steel Pier Conference Room

Come join in the fun.  All Artiology 2005 attendees and instructors are encouraged to create artist trades and swap with others.   What better time to do this than at the Swap Til' You Drop Party on Saturday! (Don't know about "artist trades"? See information on artists Trades below).

Artiologists in past years have always said that wished they could see what other artists have produced during the weekend retreat. So now is the perfect time to bring your finished creations and show them off.   Snacks will be provided. No charge to attend. The Steel Pier is located right next to the "Shoe Bar".

Other Weekend Activities

Trades

It has been a fun tradition to create items that represent your creative talents that you can swap with your fellow Artiologists.  It is purely voluntary. But trust me when you see what is being traded you'll want to participate. The trading is everywhere at Artiology! Attendees trade while standing in the line for check-in, in the halls, before class, during class, at the Meet and Greet and of course at the "Swap Til' You Drop" Saturday night party. So, be sure to carry your trades with you everywhere you go.  And also it would be good to have some sort of tote bag to carry all the wonderful trades you will receive!

The theme this year is Vintage. We are asking Artiologist to create "charms." Artiology will supply the bracelet. In the end, everyone will end up with one unique charm bracelet that will truly be creative piece of Artiology memorabilia. Ahh, it will be your very own "reminiscences of the past".

So think in terms of items that would fit on a charm bracelet. It could be beads strung on an eye pin, small dice/dominoes, things made with shrink plastic or polymer clay, soldered pieces, small keys, tokens, coins, original pieces of artwork, the ideas are endless. Just don't forget to have some way to attach a jump ring to your "charm". And, it's always nice to have some way that others can identify your trades. (Ex: put it in a small baggie with your name or email address printed on a piece of paper or attach a tag with your name/email address to it.)  How many should you make? A suggestion would be at least 50. Do more if time permits. The emphasis is on enjoying the experience, having fun and not stressing out.

For more trade information and ideas, you are encouraged to join the Yahoogroups for ArtiologyNews.   Post your questions or ideas to the board and/or click on "Photos", then click on the folder "2003 T". There you will be able to see some examples of trades from previous years.

Bring/Take Recycle Table

In the past years Artiologists brought items to the weekend retreat to share/recycle. You know, things that you have a lot of or something you know you'll not ever use. Sound familiar. What happens is, the items are put out on tables in the Registration Area and if it looks like something useful to you, it's yours. Please try to bring something to contribute. Don't just be a taker.

Getting Around Atlantic City:

Visitors to Atlantic City have been riding on the Famous Rolling Chairs since the 1800's. The wicker rolling chairs are rolled up and down the length of the Boardwalk by a guide. A ride in a rolling chair is bewitching, like a carriage ride through Central Park, or a gondola tour of the Venetian canals. Visitors have used the rolling chair for a relaxing ride, a scenic tour, or on occasion, for special events, such as engagement or wedding proposals. These chairs are built not for speed, but for romance. For more information call (609)347-7148.

In addition to the traditional taxi cabs, Atlantic City Jitneys run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For a convenient way to travel around town, everyone rides the Jitney. It's the Atlantic City Way! Jitneys travel the entire length of the city, from the inlet to Jackson Ave., from the Marina to the Casinos, servicing practically all major Atlantic City attractions. Jitney stops are located on the corner of every route and originate one block from the Boardwalk on Pacific Avenue. For your convenience, every sign located by each Casino Stop, will have color-coded numbers. Decide your route, then just look for the corresponding color coded number on each Jitney, hop on and enjoy the ride! What is a Jitney? A Jitney is a 13 passenger mini bus. Cost is $1.50 per person. For more information call (609)344-8642.

Parking:
Hotel Valet Parking - $10
Self Parking in the Convention Center - $7.00

Note:  Casino parking is much cheaper. If this will work for you, go for it.  (Caesar's is the closest casino.
